Leyla Tajer

Leyla H. Tajer is a scholar with a deep focus on Islamic studies and comparative religion. She completed her Ph.D. at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) at the International Islamic University Malaysia, where she was awarded the Best Ph.D. Student Award by the King of Pahang, Malaysia, for her dissertation on “The Ingredients, Stages, and Experience of Love.” With extensive teaching experience at institutions such as HELP University and the Global Wisdom Academy in Malaysia, Tajer has made significant contributions to the academic field through her research articles, book chapters, and presentations at international conferences.

Her work primarily explores the spiritual and philosophical traditions of Islam, with a particular emphasis on Sufism, love, and wisdom as interpreted by prominent Muslim scholars. She has co-authored books on Persian Sufi literature and the writings of the 16th-century Malay mystic Ḥamzah Fanṣūrī. Currently, her research is focused on the evolving LGBTQ perspectives in Shia Islam, examining the religious, cultural, and jurisprudential influences in Iran.

Tajer is also a passionate advocate for gender equality, social justice, and self-improvement. She is actively involved in community service, teaching ESL to Spanish-speaking immigrants, and volunteering with the National Sexual Assault Hotline at RAINN. Tajer serves on the advisory board of the Roya Institute for Global Justice, is a co-investigator at the Oxford Centre for Christianity and Culture at Regent's Park College, and is an editorial board member of the Horizon Journal of Humanities & Social Sciences Research (JHSSR).
