Dr. Hwiada Mahmoud AbuBaker Hassan is an Associate Professor of Medical Anthropology at Ahfad University for Women (Sudan), where she also serves as the Editor of The Ahfad Journal: Women and Change. She holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the Medical University of Vienna and an M.A. from the American University in Cairo. With over two decades of experience in higher education and qualitative research, her expertise spans medical anthropology, gender mainstreaming, and public health. Alongside her academic roles, Dr. AbuBaker has worked extensively as a research and evaluation consultant for prominent international organizations, leading impactful initiatives focused on women’s leadership, civic engagement, and community resilience across conflict-affected regions.
