On December 13, 2023, the University of Pennsylvania History Department hosted Dr. Nasr Ahmad Arian of Penn State University and Dr. Khalilullah Afzali of UCLA. Dr. Arian spoke on "A Discourse and Narratological Typology of Persian Prose Fiction in Afghanistan" and Dr. Afzali delivered the lecture, "Unseen Sources: The New Historical Narrative of Northwest Afghanistan in the 19th Century." Dr. Firoozeh Kashani-Sabet of the University of Pennsylvania moderated.
