Scholars experience displacement in many parts of the world, and the Middle East North Africa region is no exception. Such hardship is due to a variety of causes, from authoritarian crackdowns on academic freedoms to war to the criminalization of certain forms of research and study. In this December 3, 2021 workshop at the Middle East Studies Association Annual Meeting, professionals who work to assist displaced scholars from the Scholar Rescue Fund, Scholars at Risk, the New University in Exile Consortium, the Open Society University Network, and the MESA Global Academy convened to discuss the most recent developments in academic displacement, including the situation in Afghanistan, as well as the latest strategies to support these scholars and promote knowledge production. Rochelle Davis of Georgetown University served as moderator.
